John Hyde the founder and president of CapitalRock began his career at a startup
company called Sterling Wentworth Corporation in 1986 and the company grew into
the largest supplier of financial planning and needs analysis software in the financial
services industry. In 1999 John became President of Sterling Wentworth the same
year the company was sold to SunGard Data Systems. Within 9 months of the acquisition
by SunGard John was promoted to Group CEO and was given responsibility for all the
front office applications for retail brokerage, banking and insurance. During John’s
six year tenure at SunGard his group called SunGard Online Investments Systems (“SOIS”)
acquired six software companies and grew to over 500 employees. These companies
were integrated into suite of products built or acquired capability in the area
of wealth management, CRM, compliance, online trading, real-time market data distribution
and market data management
As part of the group’s acquisition strategy an integrated broker workstation was
developed for the brokerage market. Each of software solutions that were acquired
were re-platformed and integrated using a common interface and data layer and other
common components called the Common Services Architecture (“CSA”). Given the state-of-the-art
nature of the CSA and the early on successes using it in the SOIS group, it has
now been adopted by all the operating units in the financial systems division.
In addition to acquiring and integrating components into the group several new products
were successfully launched under John’s leadership of SOIS. Two products of particular
note were Synapse Surveillance/Suitability and WealthStation. Synapse Surveillance/Suitability
is a compliance solution and that segment of the market has expanded tremendously
with Synapse Surveillance and Suitability being the market share leader. Just prior
to leaving SunGard John engineered the acquisition of Synapse’s leading competitor
(Protegent) in the space to solidify market leading position in the space.. WealthStation
was developed using the CSA architecture to provide and integrated solution for
advisors to high net worth individuals.
John has a bachelors of science degree in finance and MBA from the University of
Utah.
